Tension Systems

               The AJE Dancer Tension System

The AJ Engineering Dancer Tension Assembly is designed to use two (2) 6" diameter rolls and one (1) 5" diameter dancer roll complete with 1/2" thick frames.  The dancer roll is mounted vertically on a 24" x 30° rotation arm and is air-loaded by two (2) low friction air cylinders.  The Dancer Assembly is designed to absorb tension "spikes" caused by out-of-round rolls and off-center chucking.  When used in conjunction with the tension system outlined below, the position of the dancer also serves as a reference signal.

The Analog Tension System is designed to operate in conjunction with the Dancer Assembly outlined above.  The principal operation is that the pneumatic brake pressure is automatically controlled to keep the dancer in its center position by means of a closed loop P.I.D. electronic control.

When the web tension changes for any reason, the dancer position changes from its center position which in turn sends a signal to the brake to compensate for the dancer movement and return the dancer to its center position.

The system has several controls to stabilize and customize the electronics for nearly every pneumatic brake unwind application.
